WHAT WAS IN MY SMOOTHIE TODAY?
1 cup pineapple juice, 1 whole orange, 1 large handful baby spinach, 1/2 handful fresh parsley, broccoli sprouts, 1/2 cup wheatgrass, 1 tbsp flax oil, 1/2 tsp spirulina. This will give you some ideas of new smoothie combinations.
- Todays superfood: Hemp Hearts.
These miraculous little granules can easily supply you with needed essential fatty acids, protein and enzyme requirements in your diet. Personally, I like about 2 tbsp of hemp hearts on some fresh fruit(usually strawberries, pineapple, blueberries or raspberries) and some vanilla yogurt. I either have this delicious and filling little snack with my breakfast smoothie, mid morning or with my lunch smoothie. It is said that with 5 Tbsp of hemp hearts on yogurt or oatmeal for breakfast you can go all day with ample energy and nutrition supplied, BUT BE CAREFUL!! With the addition of this amount of hemp hearts, if you are eating any processed foods or starches, you will probably get diahhrea. Well, I like to eat and I really don't like diarrhea so, I keep it to two tbsp in the morning.
I also add hemp hearts to my homemade bread and muffins. I replace approx up to 1/4 of the flour with hemp hearts, it doesn't alter the taste of the baked product and hides some extra nutrtion:) Hemp hearts are available at the Bulk Barn, Corn Crib or health food store and Jean Coutu in Riverview.
- Todays mission: get some hemp hearts and give them a try!
